Showerthought: That fancy moisture meter I bought for $250 was a total scam
I got the ProTec 9000 last year for a big glue-down job in a basement, thinking I needed the 'best' reading. The thing gave me three different numbers in the same spot, all over the place. Ended up just doing the plastic sheet test overnight like I should have from the start. Anyone have a meter they actually trust, or is it all just junk?

Man that sucks about the ProTec. My old Tramex has been solid for years though, super consistent readings. Maybe you just got a bad unit lol.

My old company bought three ProTec MRH3s back in 2018 and two of them started giving wild readings within the first year. The Tramex we kept as a backup never had a single hiccup. It just feels like some brands cut corners on quality control these days. I'm honestly not surprised to hear someone else had issues.

Our shop bought four ProTecs in 2020 and three had to be sent back. The calibration was just off right out of the box. My beat up Tramex from 2015 still gets it right every single time.
