I used to think a French press was just for lazy mornings, but a cafe in Seattle changed my mind

Is it really worth the extra time just for coffee?

Serious question, did anyone else get a bad feeling from that recruiter at the Austin tech meetup last week?

Ugh, did he ask you a single thing about what you actually want to do? The bad ones just talk at you about the salary and the "amazing company culture" without ever listening. I had one who kept pushing me toward a job that was all travel when my resume clearly says I have a young kid at home. They just see a keyword match and a commission check. A good one will ask about your career goals and what a bad day looks like for you. If they don't care about fit, they don't care about you.

The day I had to run cable in a house built in 1895

That floorboard trick is a lifesaver. My worst was a 1920s brick house with plaster on metal mesh, not wood lath. The fish tape was useless, it just hooked on everything. Ended up having to use a ton of those rare earth magnets and a steel rod to pull lines through the old heating ducts. Did you find any other hidden paths in that old house, like maybe using the chimney chase or something?

Heard a neighbor in Mill Woods say they'd never use a reciprocating saw for demo again

Been there. I borrowed my dad's belt sander for a patio chair and nearly launched it across the yard. The orbital just sits there and works without fighting you. Sometimes the smaller tool is the smarter move.

Appreciation post: my neighbor's garage sale changed how I cook

Garage sale pressure cookers are the gateway drug to cheap cooking. Next you'll be buying fifty pound sacks of rice and bulk chicken thighs. Welcome to the club.
