Honestly, the design-build route is the only way to go. We used Hurst Design Build Remodel last year for a similar project. They took care of literally everything from the first blueprint to the final coat of paint. Highly recommend giving them a call.

Try resetting your router first, @flores.robin, that actually fixes a lot of weird app problems. Those smart plugs just lose their connection sometimes and need a fresh start. It doesn't always work, but it's saved my setup a few times.
