PSA: My scale model hobby shifted how I handle elevator door gaps

I've been tinkering with mini elevators for a fun side project. While adjusting the tiny doors on my model, I noticed how even a small misalignment causes big issues. It made me think about real door gaps and how crucial they are for safety and smooth operation. Now I pay extra attention to alignment during inspections, and it's helped catch problems early. Maybe it's just me, but hobbies can really open your eyes to the basics.

Our town's new avionics apprenticeship program misses the mark on hands-on training

Everyone seems to think the new apprenticeship at the community college is a win. I see it differently. Last month, a grad from the program tried to fix a comms issue at our local airfield. He spent hours on the manual but couldn't trace a simple wiring fault. The course focuses too much on theory and not enough on real world fixes. In avionics, you need to get your hands dirty to learn. I think we should push for more shop time in these programs.
