The $45 a month I was burning on unused gym memberships finally clicked
I used to sign up for gyms every January with good intentions, then by March I'd be paying $45 a month to not show up. Last year in March I finally sat down and added up what I'd wasted over like 5 years - it was over $1,200 just to feel guilty. Now I just do bodyweight exercises in my living room with a free app, and I put that $45 straight into a savings account for real stuff. Has anyone else found a cheaper alternative that actually stuck?

Same here, swapped gym guilt for pushups in my hallway and never looked back.

swapped gym guilt for pushups in my hallway' yeah that hit close to home. @felixlee I did the same but with a twist - got a pullup bar for my doorframe and a cheap kettlebell off facebook marketplace. now i just do random circuits whenever i walk by, no planning or drive time. feels more real than waiting for a squat rack at peak hours.

Wait, isnt the whole point of working out just to MOVE your body? I do the same thing with a pullup bar and a jump rope in my garage. Its SO much better than waiting 20 minutes for a machine that someone else is scrolling on their phone at anyway. Plus now I can do a few reps while my coffee brews, no excuses. I used to think home workouts were for people who gave up, but honestly im getting stronger now than I ever did at the gym.

Exactly the same story here man. Drove 20 minutes each way to a packed gym for years, now I bang out sets by my front door. Got a jump rope and a cheap pullup bar last year and that's it. No waiting around, no awkward eye contact with the guy grunting on the leg press. The real kicker is I actually look forward to moving now because it's zero pressure. Kitchen counter for incline pushups, doorframe for rows, that's my whole setup. Feels like cheating but the results don't lie.
